It is important to understand that the Sonoma County Republican Party exists as a legally separate organization from the California Republican Party (CRP) and the Republican National Committee (RNC). We do not receive any financial supports from those other Republican organizations; and they do not control our message, membership, and operations. We all share a common adherence to the principles of the Republican Party, but that does not mean that our members necessarily and always support the specific policies of every Republican politician or officeholder.
The Sonoma County Republican Party exists to promote the historic principles of Republicanism, as they may be applied to the local situation. It does not exist to be a slavish supporter of every self-interested action of every politician or officeholder who happens to be a registered Republican. We believe that the principles of the Party come before loyalty to the politicians, not the other way around. Also, in the same context, we believe that preserving the guiding principles of the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the foundational letters of the Republican Party carries greater weight than slavishly following the rhetoric of any politician who happens to be a registered Republican, especially when the rhetoric is at odds with the guiding principles.
